THE MOVING ELEMENTS

Theories
Ornament and function
Adaptation of Architecture

Moving element 1
Floating Elevator

The aim is to connect the interior of the square house directly to Anzac Parade, which provide a quicker way for students to get to the outside of university, also demonstrates a transaction between the private to the public and disappearing at the edge.

This element is basically functioning as an elevator, however not in the traditional way, as it appears to be floating in the space, i am trying to bring out a sense of futurism, a sense of elegance and simpleness, which is also to demonstrate my theory of combining ornament and function together.

After the floating elevator reaches the ground, a triangular opening activates and releases, passengers can then get off.

Moving element 2
Solar Control facade

People tend to adapt to their surroundings, build to seek protection has been the primary intention of human-being, and in another way, architecture is gradually built to adapt us.

This aim is straight-forward, to provide protection from the sun.
Since our location is in an environment with very strong UV-rays, it is very essential to provide protection, i have designed many of the facades to be translucent, since they fulfills the need for lighting (reduces artificial lighting) and a good view, the picture below indicates the time of the day when there is no trouble with dealing with strong sunlight,

however at other times when the sunlight is too strong for the rooms, the facade can be activated by sensors or manually triggered so that the sun can be blocked, it also works when people inside the building requires privacy.
